Former NPC Vice-chairman Arrested

Cheng Kejie, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC), has been arrested by the Supreme People's Procuratorate, it was learnt Wednesday in Beijing.

Cheng has been dismissed from the post of vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee. The decision was made at the 15th meeting of the NPC Standing Committee.

Cheng has been accused of abusing his power and accepting huge bribes. He was also deprived of his delegacy to the NPC by the regional people's congress of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on April 21.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate is investigating Cheng's case, passed on by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Chinese Communist Party.
