Sino-U.S. Health Memorandum Signed in WashingtonTwo nongovernmental health associations from the United States and China signed Tuesday in Washington.D.C a Memorandum of Understanding, which marked the beginning of a collaborative relationship between the two sides.The agreement was struck between the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the China Prevention Medicine Association ( CPMA). And Dr. Mohammad Akhter, Executive Director of APHA, and Dr. Wang Hexiang, Secretary General of CPMA, signed the memorandum. Dr. Wang said at the signing ceremony that China has a lot of things to learn from the United States in the field of public health management, and the agreement will help Chinese public health workers strengthen their nonprofit public health association, develop training and continuing education programs for public health workers and tackle some of the country's bigger health problems. For example, three of the top public health concerns in China today - tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and tobacco use - are challenges that U.S. public officials have experience fighting for decades. APHA is the world's oldest and largest public health organization, and CPMA is a relatively young nongovernmental organization. Both are working to develop effective public health systems and programs in China and improve health throughout the world. |
