China Strengthens Supervision over Education Websites

The Ministry of Education issued a notice Wednesday on monitoring on-line schools and education websites, to guarantee the healthy development of on-line and long- distance education.

The ministry notice says that all on-line schools and education websites in China should get approval from provincial-level educational departments before registering.

The notice also points out that without approval from related departments, no organizations should register and set up website in name of "on-line universities", as well as long-distance education activities. Those do not abide by the notice will be punished accordingly.

To accelerate long-distance education work, the ministry has set up on-line education colleges within twenty universities.
