Defense Industrial Department Carries Forward 'Two-Bombs, One-Satellite' Spirit
This report says China's national defense science and technology industrial department has decided to regard the "two-bombs, one-satellite" (atom bomb and hydrogen bomb, and the 'East Is Red No.1' satellite) spirit as its trade spirit to promote the cross-century reform and development of the national defense science and technology industry and set off an upsurge in learning and carrying forward this spirit in the whole industry.

Liu Jibin, minister of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, announced this in his speech given at the meeting of various circles in the capital held on April 24 to mark the 30th anniversary of the successful launch of the "East Is Red No.1" satellite.
Liu said that the "two-bombs, one-satellite" spirit was formed under the special historical background in which China developed its national defense sophisticated technology under the conditions featuring its backward economy, and weak industrial base and scientific and technological force, it is a fruitful result achieved under the wise collective leadership, cordial concern and utmost-care nurture of the Party's first generation leadership, it is a product of the organic integration of the fine working style formed by the Communist Party of China in the protracted revolutionary struggle and the cause of socialist construction with the strict attitude of following the law governing the development of science and technology, it is also the new, valuable spiritual wealth created by the Chinese people in the 20th century for the Chinese nation. Over the past 30 years, the "two-bombs, one-satellite" spirit has inspired one generation after another generation of cadres and workers of the national defense science and technology industry to make unremitting efforts for the development of this industry. In the great process when the national defense science and technology industry is marching toward the new century, the above-said spirit will continue to inspire us to comprehensively fulfill the tasks for the development, reform, readjustment and reinvigoration of the industry for national defense science and technology in the new period.
