China Unveils Roster for Thomas/Uber Cups
China named an offensive men's squad and an experienced women's lineup for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals which is to be held in Kuala Lumpur next month.
Newly-crowned All England men's winners Xia Xuanze and Japan Open champion Ji Xinpeng, will play vital roles to capture the Thomas Cup, together with veteran Sun Jun, Chen Hong and Luo Yigang, and doubles Chen Qiqiu/Yu Jinhao and Zhang Jun/Zhangwei, plus Liu Yong.
The Uber Cup team consists of Gong Zhichao, Dai Yun, Ye Zhaoying and Gong Ruina, and doubles Ge Fei/Gu Jun, Yang Wei/Huang Nanyan, plus Qin Yiyuan/Gao Ling.
Li Yongbo, head coach of the Chinese national team, said:" Our target is to defend the Uber by our solid women's players and try to make it a golden-double with the Thomas Cup by new talents." The Chinese shuttlers had trained in South China city Guangzhou, where the humid weather is similar to Malaysia, for almost a month. They will leave for Kuala Lumpur on May 7.
