China and South Africa expressed their determination to further bilateral relations by signing a declaration on the partnership between the two countries and six other documents on Tuesday.

The declaration, signed by visiting Chinese President Jiang Zemin and South African President Thabo Mbeki, is aimed at publicly stating the guiding principles for the bilateral ties in order to coordinate and integrate the wide spectrum of the government-to-government relations between the two countries.

The declaration announced the establishment of the Bi-National Commission between the two sides to consult on matters of mutual interest in the bilateral and multilateral spheres.

The other six documents include agreements on bilateral maritime transport cooperation, phytosanitary cooperation, cooperation in animal health and quarantine, cooperation in the fields of arts and culture, the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, and police cooperation.
