Chinese Defense Minister Hold Talks With Slovakian Guests

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian said the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) resolutely supports China's position on the Taiwan issue and never allows any territory to split from the motherland.

He said safeguarding state sovereignty and territorial integrity is the PLA's sacred mission.

Chi, also a vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remarks here today during his talks with visiting Slovakian Defense Minister Pavol Kanis. Kanis is the first Slovakian defense minister to visit China since Slovakia became independent.

Chi said that Kanis's visit is of great significance, and will contribute to the further development of the cooperation between the two armed forces.

He also presented the view of Chinese government on international and regional situations, and briefed the guests on China's foreign policy and national defense building.

Kanis said that the Slovakian government has adhered to the " One China" policy, and will not have any official contacts with Taiwan. He noted that China's view of resolving disputes through peaceful dialogue contributes to world peace.

Xiong Guangkai, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the PLA and Peter Paulen, Slovakian ambassador to China, attended the talks. A welcoming ceremony was held for the guests prior to the meeting
