Tibet's Tourism Heating Up ahead of Labor's Day VacationChina's Tibet Autonomous Region, known as the Roof of the World, will become one of China's hottest tourist destinations during the week-long Labor's Day vacation, which starts on May 1, according to airlines companies.The China Southwest Airlines which operates fights to the highest plateau in the world said that all the tickets for the flights from Shanghai to Tibet on April 30 have been booked out and more are still demanded even though the company has added more flights. The week-long holiday is expected to further boost the demand, an official with the airlines said. All major tourist agencies in China have offered various package tours to Tibet to meet the increasing needs. Tibet has remained a mysterious land even to many domestic travelers. The number of tourists to Tibet amounted to 340,000 last year, an increase of 17.3 percent over the previous year, with the number of foreign tourists for the first time exceeding 100,000. |
