Shanghai to Host Show on Appliances for Disabled & Elderly

An international exposition on articles and appliances designed for the handicapped and elderly is to be held in Shanghai from May 6-8, believed to be the largest of its kind ever held in China.

Attending the activity will be more than 100 domestic and overseas companies which produce artificial limbs, hearing aids, sight aids, facilities for rehabilitation and physical therapy, and special motor vehicles for those who have difficulties in moving about.

Booths set by exhibitors from the U.S., Germany, Japan, the ROK and Hong Kong and Taiwan will occupy 30 percent of the total exhibition areas.

On display are exhibits which are expected to increase handicapped persons' involvement in social life and include computers, writing utensils and books specially for blind people.

The exposition were jointly sponsored by the organizing committee of the upcoming 5th National Sports Meet for the Disabled due to be held on May 6-14 in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs, and the local handicapped persons' federation.
