Chinese Enthusiastic for Traveling in Labor Day Holiday

The travel craze sweeping over most Chinese cities has turned the coming holidays of International Labor Day into "Tourism Day".

Residents in Beijing, Guangzhou and other major cities are already busy in making their traveling plans for the seven-day holiday even though it is still a week away.

Accrding to reports of China Daily, it is now difficult for people to book a seat in popular tour groups.

Information from large travel agencies in Guangzhou indicate a bigger surge in holiday travelers this year than last year, when the Labor Day holiday lasted only three days.

The Guangzhou Travel Agency expects a 100 percent increase in the number of tourists to be served during this holiday. It stopped handling requests for tours to Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macao a month ago, as seats for outbound travel had almost been sold out.

In Beijing, about 30 percent of people in a random survey conducted by the Beijing Evening News last week said that they planned to travel during the seven days.

Seats for some hot tourist routes such as Hainan and Guilin, were booked solid a week ago, said a tourist guide with the Beijing Youth Travel Agency.

Travel agencies are also complaining that domestic airlines have canceled the 20 to 30 percent discount off the prices of tickets to them, and that some of them have to promote routes by trains.
