China Supports Healthy Growth of News on InternetThe Chinese government supports the healthy growth of news coverage on the Internet, said a senior Chinese official in charge of Internet news management.Wang Qingcun, head of the newly-established Internet Information Management Bureau of the State Council Information Office, said that developing news sites on the Internet will help meet public demand for up-to-date comprehensive information. It will also boost the country's reform and opening-up, economic and social development, and better understanding between China and the rest of the world, Wang said. In an article carried by the overseas edition of People's Daily, the official also noted that at present, a number of irregularities are present in the growth of news on the Internet. Wang cited the prevalence of inaccurate news reports, infringement of intellectual property rights, and harmful information that circulates on the Internet. "The information highway, without any rules to regulate it, would bring no good to people," Wang said. |
