China Improves Product Quality

China's product quality has been further improved during the first three months of this year, with the qualification rate reaching 80.2 percent, the latest survey shows.

This is the highest product qualification rate over the past four years, according to the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision.

The quality of 31 varieties of products, including refrigerators, detergent, pressure cookers and household gas ovens, has been greatly improved. And the quality of cosmetics and other ten categories of products remains good, compared with former spot checks.

However, low quality rate was reported for 18 types of goods, among them vegetable seeds, wood furniture and porcelain dishware.

An official from the bureau said that inferior products are mostly produced by small-sized enterprises.

The sample examination also indicated that China should readjust the product mix in some sectors, such as color picture tubes for TV sets, batteries and steel wire.
