Beijing's Extended Subway Line to Open SoonThe extended No. 1 subway line in Beijing will go into operation on June 28.The 35-kilometer line starts from Pingguoyuan in the west of the city and ends at Bawangfen in the east. The midway station at Xi'dan, a commercial center in downtown Beijing, resumed operation today after undergoing renovation and repair for more than two months. It was built a decade ago. Beijing has now 54 kilometers of subway lines, including a ring line. The subway lines transport about 500 million people each year.
