NPC Standing Committee Announces Dismissal of Cheng Kejie

The Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC) Tuesday afternoon announced the dismissal of Cheng Kejie from the post of vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

The decision was made at the ongoing 15th meeting of the NPC Standing Committee.

After reviewing the draft of an announcement from the committee on the dismissal, the legislators voted unanimously to remove Cheng from the post.

According to the announcement, Cheng, who has been accused of abusing power and accepting huge bribes in disregard of the state laws, was deprived of his delegacy to the NPC by the regional people's congress of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on April 21.

The NPC Standing Committee passed the resolution to dismiss Cheng as vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee in accordance with the Law on Election of the National People's Congress and Local People's Congresses of Different Levels, the announcement says.
