All Books Published in Macao to Be Seen on Internet

An Internet-based virtual library is being constructed and in five years it will contain all books published in Macao.

The library will become a comprehensive data bank which is accessible to world-wide researchers and common readers interested in Macao, said Wu Zhiliang, director of the UNESCO Center of Macao.

He noted that the full text of Encyclopedia of Macao, a comprehensive reference book published last year, has been made available at the website of www.unesco.org.mo.

Beginning from May, about three or four books published by the government-subsidized Macao Foundation will be placed into the virtual library each week. It is estimated that some 350 books will be put onto the Internet in two years.

In the second phase of the program, about 500 books of other publishing organs in Macao are expected to be seen on the Internet, Wu said.

The library will also include the introductions and major works of Macao's artists. In addition, a forum will be set up to collect valuable articles on the studies concerning Macao.
