Information Industry Grows Fast in China

China's information industry grows fast in the first two months of 2000, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The output of program-controlled switchboards increased by 29.1 percent year-on-year to 5.85 million lines in the Jan-Feb period.

The production of optical communications equipment increased by 19.6 percent to 3,241 units, and that of carrier communications equipment soared 25.4 percent to 1,481 units.

In the two months, the country produced 883,800 sets of mobile communications equipment, an increase of 3.7 percent.

Production of computers during the period enjoyed an increase of 31.1 percent to a total of 337 units while that of micro- computers soared 70.0 percent to 808,200.

In the same period, China also produced 827.9 million integrated circuits, 6.62 million color TV sets, and 7.15 million cameras.
