Chinese Divers Clinch Two Titles at World Cup

Chinese divers swept the last two gold medals of the World Cup in Vienna on Sunday by winning both men and women's three-meter springboard events.

Liu Ben, 24, came from behind to claim the men's title with a total of 436.38 points, beating home favorite Richard Frece to the second in 422.67. Another Chinese Tao Tang won the bronze in 399. 66. The 15-year-old Zeng Bingxuan, winner of both platform and springboard three years ago at the same event, led all the way from preliminary and won the women's crown in 316.89.

Russian Irina Lashko and Greek Jean-Romain Delaloye took the second and third in 309.69 and 284.16, respectively.

"Zeng had higher difficulty code than other competitors. However, she was a little bit nervous today and did not perform her best form," said Zeng's coach Huang Yuji.

With a sluggish start, Liu, World Cup champion in the one meter springboard, trailed the Austrian Frece all the way until the fifth rotation and finally took the title.

China wrapped up three golds and four bronzes at the three-day event, which kicked off on April 21.
