Zhongshan University Sets up Branch School in Zhuhai

Zhongshan University, in the city of Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong Province, recently set up a branch school in Zhuhai city in the same province.

The branch school, established by Zhongshan University and the Zhuhai municipal government, is a new approach in university education in China, Monday's China Youth Daily reported.

The Zhuhai government gave 3.4 square kilometers of land for the facility, along with teaching equipment worth 270 million yuan to the branch school, plus 100 million yuan in funding for a classroom building.

Zhongshan University spent 350 million yuan for its Zhuhai branch school, which will create a college for oceanic studies, and research centers for bio-medicine, software, environment protection, law and economy.

From 2000 on, freshmen and sophomores at Zhongshan University will study in Zhuhai, while the juniors will move to the Guangzhou campus.
