Shanghai Customs Seizes Sportswear with Fake Trademarks

Customs officers in Shanghai have just uncovered a trademark infringement case involving illegal use of world-famous sporting goods brand names Nike and Adidas.

They seized 246,000 individual phony-label Nike and Adidas sportswear items worth a total of 5.67 million yuan (about 683,000 U.S. dollars).

Customs sources cited this as the largest intellectual property rights infringement case ever handled by the local customhouse.

The sportswear, made by a garment factory in Shishi, a booming city in east China's Fujian Province, was scheduled to be exported to Russia.

Customs officers determined the sportswear fake with the verification by personnel of Nike and Adidas firms in China.

They have confiscated the sportswear and further investigation is underway.
