According to a provision recently issued by the Ministry of Public Security, Chinese citizens can get a passport within 15 days instead of the previous 30 days and even within five working days for urgent cases of going abroad for medical treatment, funeral, visiting critically ill patients, etc.
It is also stipulated that public security departments should finish all the procedures within five working days in the following cases: going abroad for urgent business activities or for study, the beginning of a new school term being approaching, studying abroad on the state scholarship, the validity of entry permits or visas of target countries going to expire or other cases confirmed to be urgent by the departments of public security.
The new regulation accordingly simplifies procedures for Chinese citizens to travel abroad. Applicants only need to present public security departments with invoices of the travel agencies entitled to organize tours or any certificates proving that the applicant has a deposit of more than US$ 4,000 or other circulating foreign currencies of equal values in China.
