China Scenic Sites/ Resorts Exp. ClosedA tourism exposition closed April 23 in Dalian, coastal city of Liaoning Province, northeast China. The four-day event has attracted over fifty thousand visitors and as many as 1237 contracts to a value amount of 83 million yuan signed.Important negotiations have been held by delegations representing 31 Chinese provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, the Macao Special Administrative Region and foreign businessmen from abroad flocking to coastal Dalian. Insiders say the expo has aroused wide interest both in China and abroad for a rapidly growing tourism market pending its entry into WTO, good opportunities arising from the country's west development and high attention given to tourism by the Chinese government. Since 1978, China's tourism has been growing at a heady speed, and statistics indicate that in 1999, some 72 million people came to the country from abroad, up more than 40 times over 1978, and bringing tourism revenue of US$11.4 billion. In the first three months this year, the country's international tourism continued to surge. During the period, China received more than 19 million overseas tourists and earned over US$3. 6 billion, a jump of 15.5 percent and 17.7 percent over the same period last year.
