Shanghai Makes Progress in Cooperation with Central China

Sixty technological cooperative projects and trade contracts were signed between east China's Shanghai Municipality and central China's Henan Province on April 23. The contracts and projects involve a total value of over 4.2 billion yuan (about US$ 504 million), and are mainly in textiles, light industry, machinery, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, with some one dozen related to hi-tech industries. Feng Guoqin, vice-mayor of Shanghai, said during a press conference that the city will provide Henan with personnel, capital, and technological support to make good use of the province's advantages in market potential and rich natural resources.

Both sides are positive about cooperation in tourism industry, as they both are abundant in cultural resources and tourist attractions.

Shanghai and Henan are jointly holding five-day trade and commodity fairs in Henan which began on April 21. Henan, the most populous province in China, is a bridge between the western and eastern regions of the country, and is playing a key role in the economic growth of west China.
