China's Output of Chemicals on Steady Growth

China's chemical industry has maintained its growing momentum with the output of most major products on the rise in the first two months of 2000, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The production of chemical fertilizers climbed by 0.5 percent on an annual basis to 4.76 million tons, and that of chemical pesticides grew by 8.0 percent to 97,000 tons.

During the period, 948,400 tons of chemical fiber were produced, up 10.8 percent year on year, while 1.34 million tons of plastic products were turned out, up 15.7 percent.

The output of ethylene grew 6.3 percent on an annual basis to 716,000 tons and that of plastic resin and polymers jumped 25.9 percent to 1.63 million tons.

Production of caustic soda grew by 18.0 percent to 993,800 tons, while that of sulfuric acid dropped 0.4 percent to 3.20 million tons.
