Applied Technology College Set Up in Qinghua University

China's prestigious Qinghua University inaugurated a new college Saturday on applied technologies, with Wu Minsheng as the head.

University sources said that software engineering will be the major specialty in this newly-founded applied technology college. Only science and technology university graduate students with bachelor' diplomas and aged below 35 years will be eligible to be enrolled for a two-year study at the new college.

Students on enrollment will finish all courses related to computer software in the first year and go for practice in other universities, and software or Internet-related companies in the second year. Those who prove themselves qualified will get a second bachelor's diploma.

The new college now only has 250 students who have all obtained their first bachelor's diplomas. Forty percent of the students are from big-name universities across the country.

Wu hopes that most of the graduates of his college will engage in software designing and development, or go in for software development and management in the fields of computer network and e- commerce.
