China's Steel Production on Upswing

China witnessed a steady growth of steel production in the first two months this year, with the output growing a year-on-year 4.8 percent to reach 19.81 million tons, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The output of steel products hit 18.80 million tons in the two months, surging 9.4 percent on an annual basis.

Also in the period, production of pig iron grew by 11.0 percent to reach 20.37 million tons.

The period also saw a year-on-year increase of 17.2 percent in the output of non-ferrous metals, which stood at 1.11 million tons.

The output of aluminum oxide hit 688,300 tons, up 16.5 percent on an annual basis, and that of aluminum products hit 184,400 tons, surging 10.7 percent.

The output of copper products increased by 14.7 percent over the same period of the previous year to reach 189,800 tons.
