China's Output of Electrical Appliances Up

The production of most household electrical appliances grew steadily in the first two months of this year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The output of household refrigerators jumped 17.5 percent year- on-year to 1.69 million, while that of color TV sets dropped 6.6 percent to 6.62 million.

The latest figures from the bureau show that the country produced 2.03 million air conditioners in the January-February period, soaring 23.3 percent on an annual basis.

In the same two months, the output of household washing machines went up 6.6 percent to 2.64 million.

China has taken measures to stimulate domestic demand in a bid to minimize the impact of the Asian financial crisis. Its anti- smuggling drive has also promoted sales of China-made household electric appliances.
