Guizhou Opens Four New Tourist RoutesSouthwest China's Guizhou Province will open new scenic spots in four directions with Guiyang, the provincial capital, as the center.The eastern route comprises of 10 sites featuring ethnic tastes. The western route is featured by karst caves. The southern route covers virgin forest and villages inhabited by Puyi, Yao and Shui nationalities. The northern route is dotted with buildings and museums in memory of the Long March conducted by the Red Army led by the Chinese Communist Party during the 1934-36 period. Chishui City, which is well-known both at home and abroad for Chishui River War where the Red Army traversed four times to and from, has turned into a new tourist attraction. It has built a state-level forest park and will build a dinosaur park. In addition, these tourist sites are connected with famous cities in other provinces such as Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, Zhangjiajie, in Hunan province, Guilin, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the Three Gorges in Hubei province. Guizhou has more than 1,000 historical and scenic spots, 200 of which have been opened to visitors. The province played host to 5. 3 million domestic tourists and 167,000 overseas visitors in 1999, netting a combined tourism revenue of 4.8 billion yuan (578 million U.S. dollars).
