The output value of pharmaceutical industry in central China's Hubei Province is expected to reach 10. 3 billion yuan this year, up 12 percent over 1999.
The industrial added value will be 3.1 billion yuan, up 10 percent; and the sales value will come to 8.27 billion yuan,against 5.68 billion yuan in 1999, said an official of the local pharmaceutical department.
Hubei has 119 pharmaceutical enterprises and 20 medical instruments and apparatus plants. According to local statistics, its drug consumption is around 3.5 billion yuan a year, with an annual rise of about five percent.
Its pharmaceutical industry takes the lead in the country in R& D. Its output of amino acid and hormones ranks first in China. The province has set up a number of pharmaceutical production bases for vitamins, hormones, children' drugs and medicine related to ophthalmology, and quality TCM materials.
