CMC Vice-Chairman Meets Czech GuestsThe one-China principle is the premise of peaceful reunification with Taiwan, the Taiwan issue cannot drag on indefinitely, and no form of "Taiwan independence" will be tolerated, a vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission said April 21.Zhang Wannian made the remarks when meeting Jaromir Novotny, the first deputy minister of the Czech Republic defense ministry. Zhang said that the reunification of the motherland is favored by the majority of the people and is the general trend. Any attempt to create independence for Taiwan will be opposed by all Chinese -- including the people of Taiwan -- and is doomed to fail, he stressed. Zhang expressed his appreciation for the Czech government's one- China stance. He said that Chinese government has maintained the long-term, friendly relations with the Czechs, and voiced his hope that the military and state relations between the two countries would develop further on the basis of mutual respect, mutual benefit and non-interference in each other's internal affairs. Novotny said that the Czech government and army have adhered to the one-China stance and never developed official relations with Taiwan. He said he hopes that Czech-China cooperative relations will continue to thrive. Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of the General Staff of the People 's Liberation Army, attended the meeting.
