Light Dust Storm Hits Ningxia

A dust storm hit most of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on April 20, accompanying a strong cold front from Xinjiang which swept through the northern and central part of the Hui Muslim region.

This is Ningxia's sixth dust storm this spring. The cold front dropped the daytime temperature by five degrees Celsius.

Yinchuan city, capital of the region, and Huinong and Taole counties suffered most seriously, where visibility was only several hundreds of meters.

Ningxia is near four deserts, Tengger, Hobq, Badain Jaran and Muus, all situated in the neighboring Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, making dusty weather a frequent occurrence in Ningxia during the spring and summer.

Several dust storms have hit north and northwest China since the beginning of this spring, with seven storms blasting through the Chinese capital Beijing.
