HK Official Optimistic About Opportunities on MainlandThere will be tremendous business opportunities and benefits for Hong Kong construction industry in participating in the infrastructural and environmental protection projects on the mainland, said Secretary for Works Lee Shing-see on Thursday.Wrapping up his recent visit to Chongqing, Lee said his sanguine outlook was based on his assessment of the business prospects of local construction sector, given its advantageous position in getting a share in the flourishing construction market on the Mainland. "In vying for works contracts, the construction sector of Hong Kong will surely have an edge over its overseas competitors in terms of its advantageous geographical location, the remarkable track record in the many world-class infrastructural projects and, more importantly, its close relationship with the mainland on the social, economical and culture aspects," he said. Lee also pointed out that given the impending accession of China to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the construction market on the Mainland would open to Hong Kong's construction sector to expand their business activities. Earlier last week, Lee led a delegation to Chongqing to attend a construction conference jointly organized by the Works Bureau and the Ministry of Construction (MOC). |
