Across-the-board increase in number of buyers from Hong Kong's traditional and new markets was reported at the four-day Hong Kong Gift & Houseware Fair 2000, which drew to a close Thursday.
"A new record of over 54,000 buyers attended the gift fair, up 18 percent on 1999, reflecting the return of vitality in the region," said Chairman of the Gift Fair Organizing Committee Jeffrey Lam.
The encouraging results demonstrate that buyers are expanding their sourcing portfolio in Asia and looking for business opportunities as the region's economies are recovering in full swing, Lam said.
Asian businesses become active again and are back to vigorous deal making, and buyers from Southeast and Northeast Asia, in particular, were spotted in large numbers, He added. The fair was organized by the Trade Development of Council. A record of 3,446 exhibitors participated in the event.
