Private Businesses Launched "Glory Project" in China

The First Session of the Second Council of China "Glory Project" Promotion Association was opened on April 18 in Beijing. President Jiang Zemin has sent an inscription in extending his congratulations on the meeting to the effect of "Carrying Forward the Traditional Virtue of the Chinese Nation to Help Each Other March Ahead".

"Glory Project" has its aim to help eliminate poverty in rural China, initiated by people from private businesses of their own accord.

Wang Zhaoguo, president of China Glory Project Promotion Association, demanded "Glory Project" should be actively promoted and that for its great beneficence for us and our posterity it must be launched on a big scale in western China not to say great room leaves there in launching the project.

A fact to be noted in the past 6 years is that there are as many as 3500 people from private businesses taking part in "Glory Project", funding 3, 829 project items with more than 10 billion yuan of investment made. These have led to much success in advancing the project in China.

Statistics show, towards the end of last year, with "Glory Project" there are already 730 thousand people having been helped with economic assistance and over 760 thousand with employment. In addition, a donation of 1.2 billion yuan has been made to help schools and other public welfare projects; 1.39 million people in poverty-stricken areas have been helped to have adequate food and clothing.
