Jiang's Turkey Visit a Historic One: DemirelTurkish President Suleyman Demirel said Wednesday that the ongoing visit to Turkey by Chinese President Jiang Zemin has not only brought the traditional friendship of the Chinese people to the country, but furthered the bilateral friendly ties between the two countries.Speaking at a banquet he hosted in honour of the Chinese president, Demirel called the visit a "historic" one which will guarantee the prospect of the bilateral ties. Turkey is looking forward to pushing the Turkey-China relations to a new height, Demirel said. He cited the joint communique signed between the two countries earlier in the day as a document to push the bilateral ties to the level of closer partnership. The communique demonstrated the willingness of the two sides to consolidate the bilateral relations, he added. Turkey hopes that China will join the World Trade Organization at an earlier date because China's WTO admission will create new opportunities for the Turkey-China economic cooperation and trade, the president said. He continued that besides governmental departments, the private businesses of the two countries will take the opportunity to make contributions to the balanced development of two-way trade. Demirel expressed his appreciation for the great progress China has made in its economic development in recent years. The Turkish people hope that China will fulfill the reunification cause under the guidance of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, he noted.
