Zhejiang Lists 163 Key Projects for Year 2000

Zhejiang Province plans to launch 163 key projects this year, which are estimated to cost 58 billion yuan, with 13.4 billion yuan to be invested this year. The projects are mainly involved in capital construction, technological upgrading, agricultural and social development. Some 48.6 billion yuan will be used in infrastructure projects. Zhejiang is currently building five expressways and will further upgrade electric grids in rural areas, and speed up construction of a power station and seabed cable trunks in 2000. The province will also upgrade its industries, developing high- efficiency agriculture and higher education.

Local GDP is expected to rise by 9 percent this year compared with the 1999 figure, with investment in fixed assets to grow by 10 percent.
