U.S. Network Firm Helps Tianjin in E-Commerce

The U.S. Business Network Inc. has signed an agreement with the Tianjin Municipal Enterprise Management Association on developing e-commerce in this northern China port city.

Under the deal, the two sides will draw on their respective advantages in a joint effort to provide local enterprises with technology and information in doing business on the Net.

So far more than 20 local enterprises have entered into cooperation with the U.S. company, according to a company official.

The Tianjin association, founded in 1978, has over 1,000 members mainly from machine-building, electronic and chemical industries. The U.S. company entered the Chinese market in late 1997 and has established cooperative ties with the cities of Shanghai, Dalian and Shenzhen before Tianjin. The total transactions of its e-commerce in China since early 1998 has amounted to 60 million U.S. dollars.

In collaboration with China's Ministry of Information Industry, the U.S. firm established a portal in China to provide services for Chinese enterprises to develop e-commerce.

The portal, MeetChina.com, will play a role in the company's cooperation efforts with Tianjin, the official said.
