China's Shenzhen Pushes out Video Telephone Service

From April 17 on, any Shenzhen resident can spend only 800 yuan installing a set of video telephone, making Shenzhen the first city in China to provide video telephone services.

The appearance of the video telephone and the way to use it are fairly similar to those of common ones. But a screen of 10-13 centimeters and an inner-embedded miniature camera have been fixed to the video telephone, applying advanced image compressing technologies to transfer live pictures at the maximum speed of 30 frames per second.

A set of such video telephone costs about 5,000 yuan (about US$600). China's Telecom is reportedly to promote video telephone service nationwide in the late half of this year.
