Joint Mountaineering Team of College Students Formed in Lhasa

Co-sponsored by the Mountaineering Association of Tibet Autonomous Region (MATAR) and "ChinaRen.com". the Chinese Joint Mountaineering Team of College Students 2000 (CJMTCS), consisting of three students from Beijing University and two from Tibetan University was officially formed in Lhasa on April 16. It will stage an assault up Mt. Qomolangma by the end of May.

Captain of the team is Wangjia, Deputy captain of the Tibet Mountaineering Team (TMT), and Gaya, another member of TMT who's the leader of the Shock Team. The five members are Cheng Keyi, Cheng Guang, Lin Zhijian, students from Beijing University, and Sounagepe and Gesang from Tibetan University.

There are five Tibetan mountaineers with rich experience dispatched by MATAR to assist these students, of whom Daqimi and Danzhenduoqi are international grade top-notch mountaineers, and Daqimi conquered Mt. Everest twice. The other three are all national grade veterans in Mountaineering.

As scheduled, the CJMTCS will spend ten days in Lhasa for acclimatization training and other preparations. At the end of April, they will march into the base camp of Qomolangma, then start their climbing if climate offers.

Having undergone a month's training, the Mountaineering Team of Beijing University are going to storm the Everest together with their teammates of Tibetan University under the guidance of MATAR.
