Beijing Reception Marks Sino-Zimbabwean Diplomatic TiesThe Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) held a reception on April 18 to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Zimbabwean diplomatic relations.Wan Guoquan, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), together with other senior Chinese officials, attended the gathering. CPAFFC Vice-President Su Guang said at the reception that the two countries have had fruitful cooperation in the fields of politics, economics, culture, education and health since the forging of their diplomatic relations two decades ago, and he added that high-level exchanges of visits have been frequent, and the traditional friendship between the people of the two countries has been promoted. In addition, the two countries have also maintained close consultation and cooperation in the international affairs, he said, and he expressed the conviction that through joint efforts, friendship and cooperation between the two countries based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence will continue to grow in the years ahead. In reply, Zimbabwean ambassador to China, Lucas Tavaya, said that China had supported Zimbabwe in its struggle for national independence unselfishly, and was also one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with it. He spoke highly of the progress the two countries have made in their relations over the past 20 years, and offered congratulations for the return of Hong Kong and Macao to their motherland.
