Chinese President Arrives in Turkey for State Visit

Chinese President Jiang Zemin arrives in Turkey for state visit

Chinese President Jiang Zemin arrived Turkey Tuesday for a state visit to Turkey at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Suleyman Demirel. Jiang is to discuss with Demirel ways of further strengthening bilateral ties and the international and regional issues of mutual concern.

Jiang will also meet Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Yildirim Akbulut. Turkey is the third leg of Jiang's five-nation tour of Asia, Europe and Africa, which has already taken him to Israel and Palestine. Jiang flew to Egypt's Mediterranean port city of Alexandria on Monday for a meeting with President Hosni Mubarak. Jiang will also visit Greece and South Africa before winding up his three-continent tour.
