Western Forum to Be Held in Chengdu This October
The first "Western Forum" will be held in mid-October in Chengdu. By then, 500 magnates will gather in Chengdu to discuss the prospect for the development of west China. Zhou Yongkang, secretary of the Sichuan provincial Party committee, will be the chairman of the preparatory committee.
The grand meeting is initiated by ministries and commissions of the central government, including the Development Research Center and the Information Office under the State Council and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and undertaken by the Chengdu People's Government. The main topics of the forum will include the opening policy, cooperation between east and west China and the development plans of western provinces in the strategy for the large-scale development of the western region. Invitations to 500 top transnational corporations and enterprises have been sent out. It is estimated that the "Western Forum" can compare favorably with the Fortune Forum held in Shanghai's Pudong last year.
