China, Netherlands to Increase Exchanges Between Parliaments

China and the Netherlands agreed here on Tuesday that exchanges between the legislatures of the two countries should be further promoted so as to help push forward the overall cooperation between the two nations.

The agreement came at the meeting between visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing and the Dutch parliament leaders, Speaker of the Second Chamber Mrs. Jeltje van Nieuwenhoven and Speaker of the First Chamber Mr. Korthals Altes.

The Dutch parliament leaders welcomed Li's current visit to the Netherlands, which started on Sunday, and expressed their desire for further promoting exchanges between the two countries in all fields,including that of the legislative bodies, so as to enhance mutual understanding and expand bilateral cooperation. Li said he believed that the continuous development of

exchanges and cooperation between the People's Congress of China (the parliament) and the Dutch parliament will surely become a sustained and important driving force for the development of the friendly cooperation of mutual benefit between the two countries.

Before the meeting, Li was present at a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between China and the Netherlands on future cooperation in the fields of education and science and technology.
