Chinese Vice-President Visits Inner Mongolia

The ruling Chinese Communist Party must strive to effectively respond to the demands of China's progressive social productive force and be loyal representative of the masses, stressed Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao on a recent study tour of north Chinba's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Hu, also Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that Party committees at all levels must find solutions to local problems that might affect reform, development and stability.

Hu made the remarks during the April 13-18 study tour of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Braving strong gales, Hu chatted with local people planting trees.

He also visited herdsmen families in the eastern Inner Mongolia, devastated recently by severe snow. Hu urged local government leaders to conduct scientific planning on economic development, discarding emphasis on quantity.

Hu called on a shift to quality and efficiency as the focus of economic development at a time when livestock are beginning to threaten the ecology of the grasslands.
