Beijing Investigates More Corruption Cases
The Chinese capital dealt with 80 cases concerning corruption in the first quarter this year, up 33 percent over the same period of last year.
A spokesman with the Beijing People's Procuratorate revealed at today's press conference that officials responsible for bureaus or section offices were named in 20 cases, and 59 were cases involving over 50,000 yuan (about 6,000 US dollars) of palm grease, an increase of 69 percent over last year.
He noted that 23 cases involved more than one million yuan (120, 000 US dollars) of illegal money, double last year's figure.
During 1998 and 1999, 2,362 cases of corruption were examined by the Beijing procuratorate, with 77 cases involving more than one million yuan.
