China, Canada Form JV on Green Vegetable Production
A multi-million dollar China- Canada joint venture on green vegetable production has officially started business in Beijing.
Visiting Canadian Minister of Agricultural and Agri-food Lyle Vanclief and Canadian Ambassador to China Howard Balloch attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Beijing Shunxin Agricultural Holding Co., the Chinese investor, holds 52 percent of the 3.6 million U.S. dollars investment, while Canadian Hydronov Co., the world's leading lettuce producer, held the remaining 48 percent.
A computerized production line will monitor the whole vegetable production process from seedlings to packaging. This production line is widely used in Canada, U.S. and Beijing and Shenzhen. The new company has already built a greenhouse with a total area of 14,000 square meters and a 1,000-square-meter processing and packaging workshop. The daily production capacity is set to reach 10,000 lettuces after full operation.
