China's Industrial Production Maintains Fast Growth

China's industry maintained a fast-growing pace in the first quarter of this year with added values totaling 501.2 billion yuan, or a rise of 10.7 percent as compared with the same period last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said on April 18.

The figure represented an increase of 3.4 percentage points as compared with the fourth quarter of 1999.

The country witnessed an increase of 8.6 percent in the state- owned or state-holding enterprises, a 7.7 percent rise in the collectively-owned enterprises and a 14.4 percent rise in the foreign-funded enterprises.

In addition, the country's heavy industry achieved an increase of 11.5 percent in the first quarter, showing 1.7 percent faster than the light industry.

And telecom products and equipment, electronic computers, micro-computers and integrated circuit products showed increases ranging between 16.3 and 73.1 percent. The mobile phones showed a 1.4-fold increase.

The industrial production and marketing rate in the first quarter stood at 95.92 percent. And the comprehensive index of industrial enterprises in the first two months stood at 95.83, showing a rise of 15.6 percentage points as compared with same period of last year.
