China Expects Faster Economic Growth This Year
China's steady economic growth in the first quarter showed signs of a better future, and the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) this year is expected to surpass that of last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday. Liu Chengxiang, spokesman for the bureau, said at a press conference that this year's economic growth rate will be a little higher than 1999 given that all the fiscal policies are well implemented.
He supported his points by listing four aspects, including last year's macro-economic control measures, increasing export, fast development of high-tech industries, and growing confidence among both consumers and manufacturers.
