Farmers Making Fortune in West China

An increasing number of farmers in east China's Jiangxi Province are moving to the western part of China to make earnings.

For a long time, farmers would choose to work in economically- advantaged coastal areas, but the trend has changed as China has kicked off a national campaign to develop its western part. Statistics show that more than 30,000 Jiangxi people went to western China in March, and 11,000 farmers were from Xingguo County alone.

More than 200 technicians from Dingnan County, known as "China' s Sweet Pear Town", plan to build pear gardens in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in southwest China.

Local sources said that more than 200 farmers in Jinxi County have gone to some west Chinese towns to grow vegetables.

The provincial labor departments have offered formal and regular service for the farmers. One example is that Xingguo County established special files for the farmers and helped them to find jobs in western China.
