Tibet: to Develop Feature Economy on Resource Advantages

Seizing opportunities brought about by China's grand blueprint of western development, Tibet will fully take advantages of its abundance in natural resources and policies given favorable treatment by the central government to gradually develop industries and set up enterprises with features of its own.

As we all know, Tibet is one of China's most important resource supporting bases with great potentialities. However, due to various reasons this potential predominance has not been transferred into economic advantages in reality.

Measures will therefore be taken by Tibet local government to develop pillar industries like tourism, mineral products, construction materials, national handcrafts, Tibetan medicine, high and new technologies and industrial lines for ecological and environmental protection, Vice Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region Xu Mingyang has been quoted as so saying.

Tibet will further deepen SOE reforms and a restructuring of its enterprises for further developing industries and enterprises of its own, he said, "enterprises of large scale, high efficiency and products with good marketability will be singled out to form large-sized groups that would sustain development of pillar industries."

Xu Mingyang also pledges that the Autonomous Region government will provide policy, capital and technological support to enterprises so as to enable them make brand-name, high quality, new and special products and thus obtain bigger market shares. Meanwhile, the official also demands these enterprises to accelerate technological innovation, optimize product structure and put out brand-new products.
