The 14th Asian Taekwondo Championships is set to be commenced in Hong Kong on May 13-16, 2000, it was announced by the Hong Kong Taekwondo Association ( HKTWDA), one of the event organizer Monday.
The four-day competition features eight male and female divisions respectively. About 40 countries and regions were invited by HKTWDA, and up till now there are 21 countries and regions, such as China, South Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Kazakstan, Guam, Vietnam, Australia and host Hong Kong, China, confirmed their participation in the tournament.
There are over 50,000 people who are participating in takwondo in Hong Kong. Athletes from Hong Kong reached the peak by taking one silver medal in the event in 1978 and are aiming to achieve medals in this tournament.
